Mamma

❤️ Gi meg smilende mennesker.

❤️Så skal jeg lage en vegg av dem…

A beginning

A Norwegian.jpg

A newly-born letter A.

I love animals, or nature in general. Hopefully my love seeps through to the letters in how the animals are confidently standing their ground, or how they often gently and joyfully interact.

Favourite things

These are a few of my favourite things…

❤️ The ‘Lantern’ in Sandnes (the image to the left) was officially opened in 2008, and is in my mind a shout-out to joy as it is built with unusual material for this part of the world (plexiglass) and is only partly useful (a structure with only a roof and no walls gives only very limited shelter in a town where it usually rains sideways).

❤️ A leaf on the ground. Fall is here and I love both rainy evenings and cold, crisp air.

❤️ Bridal gowns. What can be more beautiful and happy than a store (Agape) selling elegant frocks to people who wants to celebrate their love for each other, particularly during a pandemic.

shelter

A story house, mixed media.

Isn’t it intriguing how a shared history or experience with a friend gives a sense of protection. It is as if our common bits of life give us a shelter against the storm.

Shared life with a long-standing friend can be so extensive that it makes up a tome that is unshakable. But also the thin, little books; the smiles across the counter in the coffeshop or the chat with another dog owner when your dog’s leashes are tangled can keep a rainy day at bay for me.

Just a little bigger

2019 09 Seahorse.jpg

S for seahorse.

With a little tweaking a seahorse can be turned into an S. And yes, I had to change the seahorse’s perfect anatomy, and yes, I have taken liberties when it comes to its colouring as well . But that is the beauty of art. You can put whatever you want to on a piece of paper or a canvas; a mouse with diving gear, a house with wings or a bean stalk that grows into the sky.

It is up to you, and the world seems to become just a little bigger with every new idea being born. Another grey area of the creation has been illuminated, something you perhaps didn’t even know existed yourself, and I truly believe it is worth doing and sharing.

Stories

Who doesn’t like stories?

Stories can be built up by letters on a page, word by word. And sometimes one single letter is a story.

A few years ago, I got the idea of making art letters, as a nod to the artistic letters talented monks and nuns painted for Illuminated Scriptures hundreds of years ago. During the first lock-down of the pandemic, I completed the English alphabet, and I have now decided to start on the Norwegian. To the left is a ‘Norwegian D’, built up of the images starting with the letters d; ‘dør’ (door), ‘druer’ (grapes), ‘delfin’ (dolphin), ‘dokke’ (doll), ‘dyne’ (duvet) and more.

One by one, the letters will come to me, and one by one I will post them.
